Vada was born on Jan. 29, 1932, to Bessie and Logan Prather. She grew up in Carter, Texas. As a young woman, she married Jake Newton Klein and moved to Fort Worth. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was a homemaker while rearing two daughters.
