No matter what happens in the season finale, the Hornet baseball team will play at least one more game after the regular season ends.
Azle (18-8-1, 8-5) beat Denton and lost to Byron Nelson, setting up a 2013-concluding race to the finish line.
While Wichita Falls Rider is in, four other teams are vying for the final three playoff berths.
Coach Anthony Barron said, ‘If Guyer, Azle, and Nelson all win Friday, we have to all play Saturday to determine seeds.
“If we lose Friday, then we have to play Lake Dallas again on Saturday to see who gets fourth place.”
Azle got here by popping Denton 8-2 courtesy of a six-run fourth inning.
Trevor Boiles and Trent Walcott both swatted three hits to support winning pitcher Jacob Spencer who threw a complete game.
Chase McBay and Slayton Vaughan got RBI.
At home against Nelson on Senior Night April 19, the visitors rode a five-run fourth inning to a 6-2 victory.
D.J. Johnson led AHS with two hits. Vaughan and Boiles collected RBI.
Barron likes the Hornets’ chances to advance.
“I am very confident we are going to make the playoffs, but we have to play error free. This has been one of the most competitive districts I have ever been in.
“I predict one of the four teams from this district will make it to state. We just have to get in to give ourselves a chance. I am very proud of how well we have played so far.”
as of April 22
