Alex Thomas of Springtown went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 20, 2013.
Alex was a longtime, faithful member of Springtown Church of Christ where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23 with visitation following at the church. Per his request, his body has been donated to the University of North Texas at Fort Worth.
Alex was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Fort Worth to Alex Thomas Sr. and Nancy Waldrop Thomas. He graduated from Springtown High School, Class of 1946. Soon after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Johnnie Hugh Springfield. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Oct. 26, 2013. Except for a few years with Halliburton Oil Company in Kilgore, he spent his life in the Springtown area. He became a barber in his early 20’s and remained so until his retirement, owning shops in both Azle and Springtown. Alex descended from an early pioneer family and was proud to own land northeast of Springtown that has been in the Thomas family for more than 150 years. He continued to farm and raise cattle as his ancestors before him had done.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Ronald Wayne Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie; son, James Marcus Thomas and wife, Deana of the Springtown farm; daughter-in-law, Debby Thomas Looney of Springtown; grandchildren, Ronald Wayne Thomas Jr. and wife, Katy, John Curtis Thomas and wife, Beth, Jessica Leigh Kribbs and husband, Landon and James Micah Thomas and wife, Danielle; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Braydin, Cash, Chaney and Cord; and sisters, Frankie Plumlee and Flora Mae Elliott.
