Civil War vet honored Saturday

A Civil War veteran will be honored May 11 in Azle.

Bill Agerton and Diane Agerton Dyess, will host the Sons of Confederate Veterans Cross of Honor Ceremony for Agerton’s great grandfather and Dyess’ great-great grandfather, 1st Sgt. Thomas Abner Dunaway.

He served in Company C, 14th Tennessee Cavalry.

The ceremony is set for 9 a.m. at Ash Creek Cemetery in Azle.

Bill Agerton is a member of Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson Camp 1648, Sons of Confederate Veterans. Dyess descends from Julia Jackson #141, United Daughters of the Confederacy.

All Sons of Confederate Veterans, VONAPP Direct Connect, Office for Civil Rights, Military Order of The Stars and Bars as well as family and friends are invited to attend the ceremony.

Period dress is encouraged but not required.
