State wrestling venue moves from Austin to Garland

Ever since wrestling became a UIL-sanctioned sport in 1999, athletes from all over the state have ventured to Austin for the state meet.

No more.

Beginning this year – next February – Azle’s qualifiers will stay much closer to home.

Garland’s Curtis Culwell Center is the new host site for the state championships.

From 1999 to 2005, the state site was the Austin Convention Center downtown.
