Are readers aware that Texas not only has its National Guard reserve units, but it also has a Texas State Guard (TXSG)? Actually, three branches of the Texas military forces exist, the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard and the Texas State Guard. Only the first two can be called to active duty by the president of the United States. The Texas State Guard can only be called up to operate in the state by the governor. All three of these Texas military forces report to the Texas Adjutant General, and the Commander-in-Chief is the governor of Texas.
