Great explorer La Salle, Frenchman of Texas history fame, lost a ship in Michigan too

J'Nell-Pate-mugDo readers remember when a French ship belonging to the La Salle expedition, La Belle, was found in 1995 off the coast of Texas?

Artifacts from it may now be seen in the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. Recently I learned that archeologists were searching this summer for a ship of La Salle’s that they think may have sunk in the northern part of Lake Michigan. Other than acknowledging that Frenchman Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle must really have gotten around, one might wonder the facts of his travels.
