News collects contest honors

The News continues to receive kudos for work staffers performed in 2013.
At the West Texas Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest, the News earned six first place plaques.
One of those came in a unique competition – Special Coverage – where judges deemed the News’ reporting of the local earthquake swarm was tops among all entries.
That package included stories, photos, graphics, letters to the editor, and layout – one of the latter highlighted by a mention in Texas Monthly for its “cheeky” design.
