Patterson spent 71 years running multiple places including the Red Top Cafe
BY CHRISTINA DERR
The man known as Azle’s longest- running businessman died Saturday, Aug. 5.
Orvil Lee “Butch” Patterson, 87, arrived in Azle 71 years ago in 1946 and had been an active member of the Azle business community ever since.
At the time, the then-16 year old – who said he chose Azle because it was “the big city” compared to his native Poolville – went to work at a service station on Azle’s Main Street.
Within a few years, Patterson and a partner opened Patterson & William’s Auto Repair Shop that was also located on Main Street.
