A man who reportedly fired a handgun into his backyard during a domestic disturbance early Thursday morning was taken into custody without incident late Thursday afternoon. Azle Police and the Parker County Special Operations Group set up a perimeter on the residence, located near Astoria Avenue and West Columbia Drive in the Castle Hills Addition of Azle beginning around 7:30 a.m. Cpl. Zach Hatton of the Azle PD said the man was given every opportunity to come out, but was consistently non-compliant with police requests.

After obtaining a warrant, Parker County SOG officers injected canisters containing a powder that behaves much like tear gas into the residence, but the man still would not come out. Only when they were left with no other choice, officers entered the residence and brought the man out. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Details are still forthcoming, but the man is currently being booked into the Azle jail on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
