Azle athletes shine at elite meet on UT campusby mark k campbell
Between rainstorms, a pair of Lady Hornet track athletes lit up Mike Myers Stadium in Austin May 10.
Elisha Peters and Sarah Hall returned from the state track meet on the UT campus with medals.
Peters won the gold in high jump, becoming the first Azle athlete to do so since 2010 when discus thrower Shelbi Vaughan did it.

Lady Hornet is high jump champ despite foot fracture

The pressure was great – and she had a fractured foot.
Lady Hornet high jumper Elisha Peters faced a make-or-break leap at the windy Region I meet in Abilene April 26.
As one of three competitors still alive, all had missed clearing 5 feet, 4 inches. Then her two rivals made the height.
Peters, with two misses, would likely miss out on a trip to state if she did succeed in her third effort.
She made it. Then she was the lone competitor to soar above 5-6 for the gold and a trip to Austin.… Read the rest
Abilene last stop before state meet in Austin

Contesting a district track meet at a neutral site is very rare – out-going boys coach Don Ostermann could not recall it ever happening in his 38 years of coaching – but Azle athletes shone nonetheless.
Eight performed so well at Little Elm High School that they will move on to the Region I meet at Abilene Christian University April 26-27.
Two Lady Hornets who set school records this season won gold and five boys also locked in regional berths.
For the girls, pole vaulter Sarah Hall and high jumper Elisha Peters both won their events easily.… Read the rest
