David Joseph Ballauer, 71, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on Monday, Dec. 16.
Services were held Thursday, December 19 at Ash Creek Baptist Church under the direction of White’s Azle Funeral Home. Interment was in Hoggard-Reynolds Cemetery following the service.
David was born to Joseph and Eileen Ballauer in Pontiac, Michigan on May 12, 1942. David moved with his family to Texas when he was 5 years old. He graduated from Azle High School in 1960 and went on to receive both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Education at the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State University), where he was also on the football and track teams.
David was mostly known for his long career as a math teacher and football/track coach at many of this areas local high schools, including Azle, Boswell, Keller and Justin Northwest. He also served briefly at Graham and Gatesville early in his career. He was known for his quiet, stoic personality and dry humor. Loved by kids and fellow educators alike.
He married his high school sweetheart, Rex Ansley Ballauer, on August 28, 1965, together forming a Christian household, with son, Jay, and daughter, Jan. He retired from education in 1995, finally having time to enjoy a life of gardening, woodworking and watching football games. Rex watched with him.
David is survived by his loving wife, Rex; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Helen Ballauer; and daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Chris Young. He is also survived by a sister, Jane Brewer; his 5 grandchildren, William and Peyton Fadely, Sara Ballauer, London Haren, and Camden Young; and many nieces and nephews.
