Howard Payne University welcomed its largest incoming freshman class in over 30 years this fall semester.

Among the record-setters are students from Azle and Springtown.

From AHS, Christofer Koiner, Chase McBay, and Elijah Ortega all are new to the Brownwood campus.

Another freshman is Springtown High School’s Elizabeth Rainey.

That local quartet are part of 340 first-year and 50 transfer students, raising the school’s total enrollment to 1,170 in Brownwood and satellite campuses in El Paso and New Braunfels.
