The auditorium at Azle High School crackled with excitement May 24, as graduating seniors waited to hear if their names would be called.
The annual Senior Assembly hosted the Class of 2018 and their families as representatives from the United States Military, community leaders, and AHS staff presented a long list of scholarships.
Local businesses, organizations, and individuals awarded $191,660 in scholarships. The U.S. Military awarded $1,370,000; and colleges and universities awarded $1,426,550 for a grand total of $2,988,210.
That number tops the 2017 total of $2,007,675 by almost $1 million. But a couple of classes have received more; the Class of 2016 was awarded $3,392,149, and the Class of 2014 received $3,011,774 in scholarship money.
