The District 5-4A Track and Field Championships were conducted at a neutral site – Little Elm HS – on a very windy April 9-10.

On Day 1 (Day 2 results were not available at press time), three Azle athletes qualified for the regional meet.

Leading the way was pole vaulter Sarah Hall who, with the mighty wind behind her, raised the AHS record she already held from 12 feet, 3 inches to 12-6.

“I was hoping I would get 12-6,” she said. “It may just be three inches, but it’s a year’s worth of work.”

She won the gold easily among her fellow district vaulters.

In the 3200-meter race, Brian Collard ran with a Lake Dallas runner and the duo came down the final straightaway on lap eight stride for stride. The Falcon nipped Collard by less than a second, but his silver medal advances him to Abilene.

In the shot, Dane Riley set personal bests on every throw and locked up a berth with a second place finish.
