More victories for AHS soccer

February 20, 2013

Two more district soccer matches and more points added to the Azle boys and girls ledgers.
The foes were Brewer and Saginaw.
The boys (9-4-3, 4-1-1) tied Brewer 0-0, coach Ben Buentello said.
Next, the Hornets popped Saginaw 3-0. Dominick Garcia assisted on both Dylan Tritton’s goals.
Rene Ledesma got the third score on a penalty kick.
Keeper David Mahlmann blanked the Rough Riders.
The girls (10-5-2, 4-2) moved the Brewer game to White Settlement because of AHS’ wet pitch.
A questionable call gave the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead early in the match. But the Lady Hornets rallied to win 2-1 when Hannah Johnson redirected a corner kick from Sheridan Rose. Hayleigh Aaron – the fifth AHS player to shoot at the time after Molly Grover, Kileigh Vann, Grisela Medelin, and Johnson – got the deciding score.
She also booted in the only goal in a 1-0 win over Saginaw. That came midway through the first half.
“We are still struggling to find our rhythm,” coach Trent Davis said.
