Seven Azle baseball players were selected to the elite District 5-4A All-District list.
In addition, one – first baseman Slayton Vaughan – was picked for the 4A All-State Second Team by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. In 5-4A, Vaughan was a First Team selection.
The Hornet will become the first Azle player to compete in the Class 5A-4A All-Star Game in Round Rock’s Dell Diamond; he will play for the North squad June 15.
Later, Vaughan will play baseball – not basketball as incorrectly noted last week – at North Central Texas College.
Joining Vaughan on that elite First Team were catcher Will Bagby and pitcher Colton Carpenter.
Trevor Boiles was picked as the district’s Newcomer of the Year.
Pitcher Jacob Spencer landed on the 5-4A Second Team.
Two more Hornets were named Honorable Mention: Chase McBay and D.J. Johnson.
