With district tournaments over, so are the seasons for Azle High golf and tennis.
The boys golf team competed at the district event at Weatherford’s Canyon West Golf Course April 8-9.
A poor opening day hurt Azle, coach Bob Gilbreath said.
He added that the Hornets improved “significantly” on day two.
The Azle ‘A’ squad was led by Brad Hart who fired rounds of 92 and 86 for a 178 total.
Carson Anderson was next (90-91, 181) with Carson Alexander following (103-87, 190).
Rounding out Azle’s top team with a total score of 748 were Bryce Arstingstall (108-91, 199) and Mitchell Flores (115-92, 207).
Azle made a 38-stroke improvement on day two.
The Azle ‘B’ squad was led by Jonathan Powell’s 210 (99-111).
The rest of the team: Logan Hall, Cole Cherry, Dylan Yeats, and Ian Hopkins.
Byron Nelson won the district with Denton Guyer second and Nelson’s B team third.
Tennis coach John Ward, in his final days before retirement, led AHS to the district tourney at Texas Christian University courts.
No Azle players advanced, Ward said.
He noted that four AHS athletes reached quarterfinal rounds: Amber Bader, Henrik Osten, Desiree Dority, and Mackenzie Morelock.
