Mary Margaret “Peggy” McComas Carey, 90, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, in Fort Worth surrounded by her family.
The funeral was held Saturday, June 1 in Greenwood Chapel. Interment followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Margaret was born in Indian Mound on Jan. 19, 1923, to John Thomas Henry McComas and Ruth Stephens McComas. She spent most of her life in Azle where she was a homemaker, private nurse and avid gardener. She attended Eagle Mountain International Church until her health declined. She was married to Henry Thomas “Red” Carey, on July 12, 1940, in Fort Worth.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Edith McComas McClanahan; brother, John Griffin McComas; and son, Henry Thomas “Tommy” Carey Jr.
Survivors include her children, Peggy Johnson, Mary “Liba” Doubrava and husband, John, Martha Simmons and husband, Bill, Audrey Mansell and husband, Guy, Priscilla Harrison, Stella Novikoff and husband, Alan, Charlie Carey and wife, Cindy and Rebecca “Becky” Knight and husband, Stanley; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
