Christian Paarup, an Azle High graduate, was named a finalist in the Frank Smith Tenor Trombone Competition.
A Baylor senior, Paarup will compete in the top event, the International Trombone Festival, June 26-29 in Columbus, Georgia.
Paarup was one of three Bear finalists, the second highest number of qualifiers after DePaul University in a competition that attracted players the world over.
Paarup and his fellow Baylor qualifiers are students of Brent Phillips, assistant professor of instrumental studies in the School of Music.
“For three finalists in an international field to emerge from a studio of 14 or so undergraduate trombone students is truly extraordinary,” said William V. May, Mr., Ph.D, dean of Baylor’s School of Music.
“It is a tribute to these hard working students,” he added.
