Music in the Park runs June 7-July 26
Oldies. Southern Gospel. Jazz. Latin. Blues. Country. Disco. Rock ‘n Roll.
No matter your taste in music, the lineup for the 2013 Music in the Park summer concert series offers something that’s sure to get your toes tappin’.
The hit series is expanding from six weeks in years past to a full eight week run this year. Concerts will be each Friday night from 8-10 p.m. at the amphitheater in Azle Central Park located at 263 W. Main Street.
Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, soft drinks (no alcohol is allowed in the park), and snacks each Friday evening and enjoy some eclectic entertainment under the stars.
The 2013 lineup:
June 7 – BackTrak Band is one of the hottest dance bands in the Metroplex, delivering a variety of classic rock, country, and disco. They are known for their four part harmonies, warm duets, and rock vocals. The band brings a state-of-the-art sound system and light show.
June 14 – Southern Steel is a Southern rock band, playing the best songs from bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, .38 Special, ZZ Top, The Outlaws, The Black Crowes, and others.
June 21 – N’awlins Gumbo Kings, six world-class musicians with a collective 150 plus years of experience and performance histories that include greats like Ray Charles, Paul McCartney, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Patti LaBelle, Ellis Marsalis, Dr. John, Mel Torme, Steve Lawrence, Bobby Shew, Eartha Kitt, Tony Bennett, Louis Bellson and many others. Audiences have consistently responded to the band with on-your-feet enthusiasm.
June 28 – Harmony Quartet has been performing together since 1990; their energy, humor and sensitivity to the working of the Spirit of the Living God during their concerts have endeared them to Southern Gospel audiences everywhere. The group has performed at the Grapevine Opry for over a decade, and claims several awards such as Gospel Artists of the Year and Group of the Year.
July 5 – The Fender Benders play a broad music selection; from old classic blues by B.B. King and Jimmy Reed, to new stuff from Santana’s latest CD, and everything in between.
July 12 – Lara Latin delivers a show that embraces the roots of Latin music. You can expect to hear salsa, Latin jazz, merengue, and cumbia. The band features singers, horns, and a rhythm section.
July 19 – Vinny and The Jets have been played to crowds from Chicago to North Texas since 1978, playing classic rock and oldies. The group includes a set of disco favorites to complement the 60’s and early 70’s Top 40 rock they are known for.
July 26 – Me & My Monkey, a Beatles tribute band, has been a favorite of North Texas for 15 years, with credits such as Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival (14 years in a row), Mayfest, and several other major music festivals. The band was also featured at International Beatles Week in Liverpool, England. They are the only full-on “tribute” to the Beatles with authentic instruments and suits, in detail, performed by seasoned veterans…not just the songs, but the actual feel of the Beatles live in concert, playing the full Beatles catalog in detail.
